Medical School Acceptance Rates - All Canadian Med Schools (2026)

Introduction

Let’s face it, getting into medical school in Canada is tough. With some schools in Canada reporting an acceptance rate as low as 1.47% (we’re looking at you, TMU), it can be easy to get discouraged. That’s why when we look at medical school acceptance rates, we find it helpful to break them down into 2 phases:

  1. Phase 1: Application Submission → Interview Invitation

  2. Phase 2: Interview Invitation → Offer of admission

Looking at it this way not only makes getting into medical school seem less impossible, it breaks down an overwhelming process into manageable steps that you can act on, giving you the encouragement you need to put your best foot forward when submitting your application or preparing for medical school interviews!

Phase 1: The Interview Invitation Rate

Key Statistic: Interview Invitation Rate - All Applicants

A table displaying the interview invitation rate across all Canadian medical schools

Table 1. Based on the most up-to-date publicly available data as of May 16, 2026, the mean interview invitation rate was 20.74% across all English-speaking Canadian medical schools.

The most useful statistic to look at in phase 1 is the “interview invitation rate.” In other words, what percentage of applications submitted resulted in an interview invitation at the school(s) you are considering applying to? As you can see from the table above, the average interview invitation rate for the 2024-2025 admission cycle was 20.74% across all English-speaking Canadian medical schools. Some schools even have an interview invitation rate of over 30%! Once you get that interview, it’s all about letting that personality shine. That definitely feels more hopeful than looking at an acceptance rate of 1.47% (thanks for killing our dreams, TMU).

Interview Invitation Rate - Canadian Premed Students

A pie graph displaying the interview invitation rate for student who worked with Canadian Premed

Figure 1. Between April 2023 and December 2025, 50.39% of our students received an interview invitation at a Canadian MD program, 4.7% received an interview invitation at an international MD program, 14.2% did not receive an interview, and 30.7% did not disclose the result of their MD application (n = 127). Individual results may vary. The performance of previous students is not a guarantee for future applicants.

Given that we’ve worked with hundreds of students over the past 3 years, we were curious to see how well they performed. It’s one thing for students to tell us they found our application review services helpful, but what was their interview invitation rate?

We conducted a study to answer this question and found that 50.39% of the students who had worked with us for their application review (i.e., OMSAS ABS Review, Toronto Essay Review, Calgary Essay Review, etc.) subsequently received an interview invitation. Not to toot our own horn, but we think that’s pretty great.

Phase 2: Post-interview Acceptance Rates

Key Statistic: Post-interview Admission Rate - All Applicants

A table displaying the post-interview admission rate across all Canadian medical schools

Table 2. Based on the most up-to-date publicly available data as of May 16, 2026, the mean post-interview admission rate was 32.29% (pooled) or 32.74% (raw) across all English-speaking Canadian medical schools.

In phase 2, you’ll want to pay attention to your school’s post-interview admission rate. Regardless of what their overall admission rate is, once you have an interview, your chances of getting into medical school are significantly higher than they were at the time of application (over 40% at some schools). Reason for hope? I think so!

Post-Interview Admission Rate - Canadian Premed Students

A pie graph showing the percentage of students who worked with Canadian Premed that recieved a post-interview offer of admission

Figure 2. Between April 2023 and July 2025, 70.5% of our students received an offer of admission to a Canadian MD Program, post-interview invite (n = 71). Individual results may vary. The performance of our previous students is not a guarantee for future applicants.

Of course, we wanted to see how our students did once they got an interview at a Canadian medical school, so we conducted a study to answer that very question. In that study, we found that 70.5% of the students who had worked with us for their interview preparation (i.e., mock MMI, mock vMPI, mock panel interview, etc.) subsequently received an offer of admission to a Canadian MD program, more than double the national average!

Overall Admission Statistics

Key Statistic: Overall Acceptance Rate - All Applicants

Table 2. Based on the most up-to-date publicly available data as of May 16, 2026, the mean interview invite rate was 20.74%, the mean post-interview admission rate was 32.74%, and the mean overall admission rate (from application to admission) was 6.98% across all English-speaking Canadian medical schools.

If you’ve read through this article, you can probably guess why we’ve saved the full data for the end. We wanted to break down the process into 2 distinct, manageable phases because we know that, as premeds, we can be great at feeling overwhelmed (I was once there, too).

If you’ve jumped to the end of this article, we’d encourage you to start at the top, not just so you can see more details about each phase of the application cycle, but you’ll also learn how we’ve helped hundreds of students in your shoes get into the Canadian medical school of their dreams.

An average overall admission rate of 6.98% feels close to impossible. An average interview invite rate of 20.74% feels like it’s worth a shot if being a doctor is really where your heart is. And an average post-interview admission rate of 32.74% should inspire hope that one day, you’ll be able to turn that interview invite into an offer of admission.

Our students were 4x more likely to get into medical school than the average Canadian applicant*
